Hey there! Welcome to Piney Woods Running Colors Ranch & thank you for visiting my site! My name is Jennifer MacClain & I live on a 45 acre ranch in Rusk, Texas with my precious five year old son, Billy. In our collection of critters are nine horses, a shetland/mini pony, six dogs, five cats, & six fancy rats (they were going to be snake food). Soon to be added is a deaf & partially blind albino ferret named Snowball & we're hoping to rescue a couple more so he can finally have some friends to play with. Also, we are in the process of getting a building together to house more critters such as Satin Mini Rex Bunnies, Satin Cavies, More Fancy Rats, & Satin Fancy Mice. These guys will be show, pet, & breeding quality animals. My goal is to produce them as 4-H & FFA projects so long as they will not be sold as meat/feeder animals. Here at PWRC we love all animals of many different shapes & sizes, but my true passion is horses. Yep, I'm the horse person in the family. I've been extensively studying horses for about 15 years now & I've been handling them for around 12 years! They are my first love by all means! My goal is to breed, raise, & train top barrel prospects with good minds, big hearts, & even temperments! I've been working on getting my bachelor's degree in Equine Science for a few years now, but it's difficult when you're a single parent with little avaliable time. Currently I'm working on getting certified as a professional riding instructor & then I will go back to my regular classes. I'm only going to be in school 2 days a week to make time for my animals & more time for my son. Ultimately, I would like to work exclusively from home & not have to keep a "day job".
As soon as possible I aim to build a nice barn & arena on our property in order for me to teach lessons. Teaching other people is what I truly love to do. Both in Barrel Racing & Basic Western lessons, I lean on natural horsemanship techniques as well as a give & take reward system which has proven to work in my experience. I've trained my own horses as well as many other people's horses through the years & there is no set "standard". Each horse is an individual & that's how they are treated & trained! Many of them have gone on to be solid barrel horses for adults & children at any level in their career! I've also studied under & taken lessons/clinics with some top barrel racers to include: Shirley Legrand, the late Deb Mohon, & Martha Josey to name a few. I bought my first barrel horse, Shaker (they called him Spike), from a partnership between Shelly Gish & Paula Beam (Phillips now & mother of Janna Beam who rides Chasin Firewater). These experiences have made me who I am & I'm greatful to all who have helped me get here through the years!
